I met Angela at a very low point in my life. After several sessions, due to Angela's non-judgmental attitude and kindness I developed a willingness to explore areas of my life I had completely closed off. As a result of this I came to terms with the fact that my drinking was becoming a real problem for me. I made the decision in counselling with Angela to stop drinking and it was the best decision I ever made.
Angela supported me during and after a particularly difficult period in my life following the breakdown of my marriage, when I found myself facing significant emotional stress and uncertainty. Angela provided a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental environment where I felt heard and understood. Her professionalism, empathy, and ability to guide me through complex emotions were invaluable to my recovery and personal growth. What stood out most to me was Angela's ability to listen deeply while also offering practical tools and perspectives that helped me rebuild confidence and regain a sense of stability. Angela always showed patience, insight, and a genuine commitment to my wellbeing throughout our sessions. Thanks to all her support, I was able to navigate a very challenging chapter in my life with greater resilience and clarity.
During a very difficult period in my marriage, my husband and I attended counselling sessions with Angela. We attended these sessions for over two years. Angela never imposed any labels, but she helped me gain clarity and see the dynamics I was in. Her support was steady and empowering and I eventually found the strength to leave my marriage. Today, I'm living a life full of freedom and happiness, and I'm forever grateful to Angela for her help.
I came to counselling with Angela absolutely certain my marriage would end. My wife had refused to attend. However, after working with Angela I came to realise that there was a lot I could change about myself which could enhance my life. Angela really heard me and enabled me to look at and change some negative preconceptions I had of marriage. I am living a very happy life and my marriage is very fulfilling and satisfying. This is directly related to attending counselling with Angela
Angela is a Dublin born Counsellor (MAPCP) working in private practice with couples and individuals. Angela began working as a Counsellor over 30 years ago and became certified in Reality Therapy in 1990. Her qualifications include a Higher Diploma in Counselling from Maynooth University, specialising in Relationships; a Certificate in Alcohol Studies from Stanhope Alcohol Treatment Centre and a Transactional Analysis Certificate 101 from Connexus Institute, Kent.
Angela’s experience covers areas such as addiction, anxiety, relationships, coercive control, and domestic abuse, as well as supporting the families of those affected by addiction. She works with her clients delivering face-to-face therapy and also online therapy.
Angela started her career in the Stanhope Street Treatment Centre, Dublin where she completed a Certificate in Alcohol Abuse. On completion of this, she set up and ran an aftercare programme for clients leaving a treatment programme in St. Dympna’s Hospital, Dublin.
From there, Angela completed an EAP training programme delivered by The Institute of Personnel Management Ireland (now CIPD) and became certified as a Reality Therapist from the Institute for Reality Therapy in Ireland.
She has extensive experience working in private practice with clients experiencing difficulties with addiction and clients who were affected by another person’s addiction.
In 2014, Angela completed a Higher Diploma in Counselling (Specialising in Relationships) in Maynooth University. She worked with ACCORD as a Relationship Counsellor for six years, supporting couples and individuals experiencing difficulties in their relationships. Angela has experience working with clients and couples experiencing such issues as:
Angela’s approach to counselling is Integrative which means she draws on techniques from different modalities of therapies and then tailors an individual approach for each client.
She works from a Person Centred perspective at the beginning of the counselling journey. Angela uses the core conditions of empathy, unconditional positive regard and congruence to develop a therapeutic relationship with each client. She approaches her clients with the understanding that the quality of the relationship between client and therapist is central to successful counselling outcomes.
Angela draws on other counselling modalities as the therapeutic relationship develops, such as CBT/Reality Therapy/Psychodynamic/Transactional Analysis. She believes the counselling journey may not always be linear and she will return to the core conditions of Person Centred Counselling throughout the counselling journey if she feels it is needed.
Angela provides a confidential, non-judgemental, safe and warm environment in which clients can discuss their issues. In doing so, she can raise awareness for a client of their thoughts, behaviour and feelings; and explore with them how these may be connected and playing a role in their current problematic situation. They can then work together collaboratively to build a new way forward.
Angela will work with whatever the client brings to counselling and will meet them where they are at on their life journey, without judgement, and always with the client’s well-being at the forefront of the work.
She believes her lived experience, along with her many years of training and experience gained from both being in counselling, and working as a counsellor, allows her to be present for her clients in a way that allows them feel accepted and understood.
Her hope for her clients is that they feel they can share the truest parts of themselves. That they don't feel the need to prove or defend themselves, that they are enabled to speak less out of the image of what they think they should be, and instead share who they really are.
I hold the following qualifications and am fully accredited with the APCP. I maintain my accreditation by attending regular CPD (Continued Professional Development) and my own clinical supervision.
